OHS LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

2023 - 2024

Recipients for some of these scholarships are chosen by committees that are looking for specific criteria and do not require an application. Others are based on application forms as noted. Application forms will be available via the Internet a minimum of two weeks prior to their due dates. There may be a few applications students will have to get from Mrs. Stout-Rhine or the sponsoring organization. This will be noted in the description. You need to check your senior calendars to see when the applications are due. Senior calendars will be posted on the scholarship website each month throughout the remainder of the school year. STANTON ADAMS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is provided by Mr. & Mrs. Stanton Adams and is intended to assist an Osawatomie High School graduate pursuing a degree in education. Mr. & Mrs. Adams have been longtime supporters of the students of USD #367. Mr. Adams is an Osawatomie High School Alumni and has served on the Osawatomie Board of Education for 36 years. An application is required.

AIM FOR SUCCESS SCHOLARSHIP---Each year, an award will be granted to one graduating Osawatomie High School senior on behalf of the AIM for Success scholarship fund. AIM is an acronym that stands for Aptitude Integrity Motivation. The AIM committee believes these three characteristics are critical pillars for individual success. An application is required.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS---Substantial scholarships are generally given by the Osawatomie High School Alumni Association to graduating seniors that plan to further their education. Your Alumni Association is very active and has supported graduating seniors with outstanding efforts to help them further their education. An alumni committee makes the selection. An application is required.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION CHARLES MCGUIRE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS---The Osawatomie Alumni Association also administers the Charles McGuire Scholarship Fund. These very generous scholarships are from a donation to the Association by the estate of Mr. Charles McGuire. It usually provides multiple large scholarships to OHS graduating seniors. An alumni committee makes the selection. An application is required.

AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIPS---The American Legion provides several different scholarships to students planning to continue their education next fall. Go to https://kansaslegion.org/scholarships, click on the "Scholarships" icon and select the scholarship(s) you wish to view. Applications are required.

AMERICAN LEGION MIAMI POST 156 SCHOLARSHIP---This specific American Legion Scholarship is being offered by the American Legion Miami Post 156 in an effort to help the youth of the Osawatomie & Paola communities. The recipient must be a descendant of a veteran. An application is required. (PDF application is fillable if downloaded and reopened.)

AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS CHAPTER 156 SCHOLARSHIP---The American Legion Riders Chapter 156 provides a scholarship to an OHS Senior planning to continue their education next fall. The recipient must be a relative of a veteran. (Step-relation and guardianship will meet this requirement.) An application is required.

ANONYMOUS DONOR SCHOLARSHIP(S)---Each year we typically have from one to three local individuals that donate money to award to seniors for assistance with post-secondary education expenses. The donors generally have some criteria in mind for the recipient to meet. Selection has been made by several methods. A committee is typically named to determine the student(s) to receive them. Usually, no application is required. (However, there are some anonymous donor scholarships that do require applications. See below.) 

ANONYMOUS DONOR SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established to assist graduates of Osawatomie, Paola, and Prairie View High Schools. The recipient must have attained a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above, plan to pursue a post-secondary education at an accredited degree granting college, university, community college or vocational/technical college located in the United States in the fall immediately following graduation. Selection of recipients will be based on objective standards, through an evaluation of the application. The selection committee will be guided by the following criteria: financial need, academic performance, and achievement; performance on tests designed to measure ability and aptitude for higher education (such as the ACT and SAT); character of the student, including as evidenced from recommendations from instructors or other individuals unrelated to the candidate; involvement in community activities, work experience, athletics, and other extracurricular activities. DR. W.O. APPENFELLER SCHOLARSHIP---The family of the late Dr. W. O. Appenfeller provide a substantial endowed scholarship to an OHS senior who will be attending any college or vocational school within the state of Kansas full-time next fall. It must go to a good all-around student that has demonstrated a helpful and responsible attitude, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, that has maintained 95% or greater attendance over the four years, and has participated in school activities. Scholarship availability is dependent upon earning. Therefore, this scholarship may not be available every year. An application is required.

ARCHITECTURE AND ENGINEERING AWARD---Through an anonymous donor, a very generous three year endowed scholarship is given to a student attending a major Kansas university. The student must be majoring in engineering or architecture. Upon meeting certain GPA requirements it can be a renewable scholarship for two additional years. Check with Mrs. Stout-Rhine to see if it is available this year. An application is required.

HAROLD D. BARNHART SCHOLARSHIP---From one to three students can receive generous scholarships from the estate of Mr. Harold D. Barnhart, a 1929 graduate of Osawatomie High School. Criteria include: full-time attendance at any four year college, a good all-around student, someone that has shown concern for others, a helpful attitude, and a senior that has the potential to do well in college. An application is required.

TONY BARTON MUSIC FOR YOUTH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship was established by Tony’s family and friends to honor Tony’s memory. Tony loved classic and blues music and played the acoustic guitar. He volunteered on the hospitality committee for the Paola Roots Festival for many years. He met and became friends with many famous artists. This scholarship is intended to assist a local graduate in continuing their education and musical pursuits. An application is required.   

BEAGLE COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP---This is a scholarship given by residents of the Beagle area. It is intended to assist a graduating senior that lives in the Beagle community. An application is required. Pick up application form from Mrs. Stout-Rhine.

MICHAEL BERRY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is established by the family of Michael Berry to be awarded to a “good kid” planning to further their education. Michael graduated from OHS with the Class of 2010. Michael loved sports, especially NBA basketball. He was tech savvy and an avid gamer. He was a “good kid”, a friend to and loved by many. A student involved in basketball, with plans to pursue playing at the collegiate level and beyond and/or interested in information technology is preferred. Other applicants will be considered. An application is required. 

JOHN T. BILLAM MEMORIAL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established by the family of John Thomas Billam to honor his memory and continue his legacy of assisting young people in Osawatomie. Mr. Billam graduated with the OHS Class of 1950. He and Anna Lee, his wife, have attended every OHS Alumni reunion banquet beginning in 1950 up to May 2018 - making 68 years without a miss! This scholarship is intended to assist an OHS senior further their education. An application is required. 

BLOCK COMMUNITY RURITAN CLUB SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is given by the Block Community Ruritan Organization. It is for a senior that will be furthering their education next fall. An application is required. 

DICK BOOE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship was established at the direction of and in honor of Mr. Richard “Dick” Booe. Mr. Booe was a long-time Osawatomie resident, active in the community, substitute teacher in the Osawatomie School District and strong supporter of the district’s students. The scholarship is intended for an education or vocational-technical oriented student planning to attend a vocational training program, two-year, or four-year college. Criteria include: Beginning post-secondary education in a vocational training program or a two or four year college in the fall after graduation, a high school grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher, a good attendance record. An application is required.

BRAND-WAGNER SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship was established at the direction of Mrs. Lorraine Wagner. “Though they gave to many worthy causes, their greatest joy came from helping people—especially young people.” This scholarship is intended to be used to provide for the “furtherance of higher education, including university, college and junior college education” for deserving young men and women who are graduates of Osawatomie High School, Osawatomie, KS (U.S.D. No. 367) and Prairie View High School, LaCygne, Kansas (U.S.D. No. 362). Criteria include the following: A student must have attended both his/her Junior and Senior year at Osawatomie High School, Osawatomie, KS (U.S.D. No. 367) or Prairie View High School, LaCygne, Kansas (U.S.D. No. 362) and the student must have maintained an overall “C” average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) through their high school years.Areas to be considered in the selection of recipients include the following: The character of the individual, the intelligence of the individual, which should be sufficient to guarantee success at college, the scholastic record of the individual, and the financial need of the students. An application is required.

ROYCE BRAY SCHOLARSHIP(S)---Mr. Bray was a 1948 graduate of Osawatomie High School. Criteria include: full-time attendance at a two or four-year college, majoring in engineering is preferred, however other areas may be considered, financial need, USD 367 residency, attendance at OHS senior year and two of previous years.  Availability of this scholarship is dependent on earnings and previous recipients’ continuation of their education. H. DEAN & BARBARA BROWN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---The family of Dean & Barbara Brown established this scholarship to honor their memories by assisting an OHS graduate in pursuing a post-secondary degree. Dean & Barbara moved to Osawatomie in 1974 where Mr. Brown served as the Osawatomie High School principal for 20 years, from 1974 - 1994. He also served as co-superintendent during his final year at OHS. Mr & Mrs. Brown hold a special place in the hearts of countless Osawatomie residents and High School Alumni. The scholarship recipient must plan to begin pursuing a post-secondary degree immediately following graduation from OHS. An application is required.

DELLMAR AND MAXINE BURROWS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---Mr. & Mrs. Burrows were long time area residents. They were active in the community and deeply valued the importance of education. This scholarship was established by family and friends with the intention of assisting a student pursuing a vocational field, but is not strictly limited to vocational studies. Need and merit will also be considered. An application is required.

CARTER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPS---This award generally consists of two to five awards that are made available through the interest earned from an endowment to Osawatomie High by the Carter family. Recipients are selected by a committee. No application is required.

MARY LOU AND HARRY CAVINEE SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is given through a sizeable gift to Osawatomie High School by Mr. Harry Cavinee as a memorial to his wife, Mary Lou, in 2004. Both Harry and Mary Lou supported the students of OHS for many years with the generously endowed Wagers Scholarship. The scholarship is designed for a student studying nursing. Criteria include: good grades, financial need, a caring attitude with high moral character, and a good work ethic. An application is required.

FRANK CHAVEZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is given in memory and to honor Frank Chavez by his family and friends. Frank was a graduate of Osawatomie High School and served as the custodian at OHS for many years. He was known for his kindness, compassion and giving nature. Music was one of his passions. This scholarship is intended to continue Frank's tradition of assisting the students of OHS. It is to be awarded to deserving students involved in instrumental music and deserving students in general. No application is required. 

MARIE CHERRY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This is an endowed scholarship granted each year to a student that intends to acquire a degree in some field of business. It is given in memory of Mrs. Marie Cherry, a former Osawatomie High School business teacher. No application is required.

CLASS OF 1967 SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established and funded by various members of the Class of 1967 in an effort to assist a current graduate of OHS. The recipient must have attended OHS their junior and senior years, have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher (students earning the top two GPA's are not eligible), attend a post-secondary technical or vocational school, community college or university in the fall immediately following graduation. Academic record, community involvement and need will be considered. An application is required. 

CLASS OF 1974 SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is given on behalf of the OHS graduating Class of 1974. The class exemplified a kinship in their friendships, caring, leadership, social awareness, and achievement that continues today. It is intended to honor the Class of 1974, their friends and loved ones with hopes of helping future Osawatomie High grads who aspire to successful careers and who will use that success to give back to the community. The contributors wish to recognize students who are active in the community and support the endeavors of their fellow students. Criteria include: beginning post-secondary education in a vocational training program or a two or four year college in the fall after graduation, attended OHS their junior and senior years, good example for other students, involvement in school and community service, high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher, students’ character and allegiance to their fellow classmates will be considered as well as financial need. An application is required.

CLASS OF 2013 SCHOLARSHIP---Several members of the OHS Class of 2013 have established a scholarship in order to "give back" to OHS, the Osawatomie community and its students. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated a sense of community appreciation through their participation and support of community centered events and activities. Students must begin their post-secondary education at a 2 or 4-year college or university, vocational or technical school in the fall immediately following their graduation. An application is required.

CLOTHES CLOSET SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is provided by the Clothes Closet Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Osawatomie. Criteria include: plans to attend any accredited college or voc/tech school, 3.0 or higher GPA, 95% or higher attendance rate and involvement in school activities. An application is required.

ROBERT L. COOK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established by the family of Robert L. Cook to honor his memory. Mr. Cook was an Osawatomie High School Alumni, began his teaching career in Osawatomie in 1976, was the principal at Osawatomie East Elementary School from 1980-1994, then served as USD #367 Superintendent until his retirement in 2007. He supported the students of USD #367 for more than 30 years in countless ways. The scholarship is intended to assist a student planning to pursue an education degree. An application is required.  

SERGEANT JOHN G. DIEDIKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established by the family of Sergeant John G. Diediker to assist an OHS graduate with his/her educational expenses. John was a 2017 graduate of Osawatomie High School. He joined the workforce following graduation. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in March 2018. He has been described as caring, loving, goofy, fun and adventurous. Criteria include: a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and involvement in athletics, music, and/or clubs while attending OHS. An application is required. 

SHAWNNA JO DODSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is awarded in memory of Shawnna Jo Dodson. She would have graduated in 2006. No application is required.

MARK DOZER SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established in the Memory of Mark Dozier. Mark was a local firefighter and paremedic, serving this community for years. Mark passed in teh summer of 2022 from cancer. By offering this scholarship to a high school senior, it is the hope that they too will develop the same passion and dedication as Mark for being a firefighter, paramedic or EMT. This scholarship will be awarded to a Miami County resident continuing their education at a two or four year college, tech school or university with plans of pursuing a career in Fire Science, Paramedic, or EMT field. A 2.0 GPA is required. An application, two reference letters and an official high school transcript are required. Click scholarship cover letter for details and instructions.   

LADIES AUXILIARY OF THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLES AWARD---The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles provide a scholarship to an outstanding OHS senior girl. The criteria state that she must be planning to further her education. An application is required. 

DUSTIN EAKS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established through anonymous donations intended to honor Dustin Eaks. He was very proud to be a 2001 graduate of Osawatomie High School. He obtained his Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Longview Community College. The donors of the scholarship value education a great deal and believe Dustin would be pleased to be able to give back to the community and OHS by helping a graduate further their education and obtain their goals. Criteria include: planning to obtain an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from a two or four year university or college and a minimum high school GPA of 2.75. An application is required.

EAST CENTRAL KANSAS ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship award is provided by Retired School Personnel in Miami County. The selection will be based upon academic ability, financial need, outstanding personal characteristics, and a serious commitment by the student to furthering his/her education. Preference will be given to education majors. An application is required. 

EAST CENTRAL KANSAS SPECIAL EDUCATION COOPERATIVE FUTURE SPECIAL EDUCATOR SCHOLARSHIP---The staff of the East Central Kansas Special Education Cooperative (ECKSEC) encourage talented and dedicated students in the 8 school districts we serve to pursue a career in Special Education or Related Services.  Begun in 2017-2018, this scholarship is funded by donations from ECKSEC staff, who are committed to giving back to our profession, supporting the development of a new generation of professionals to serve students with special needs.  Areas of study include Teaching  (Special Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Gifted Education), Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, School Psychology and other Related Special Education Services. An application is required. (The linked application is a PDF fillable form. You will need to download the form and re-open it in order to fill in the fields. You will need to print the form and submit a hard copy to Mrs. Stout-Rhine by the due date indicated on the scholarship calendar.)

WILLIAM AND NADINE EDDY SCHOLARSHIP---The late William and Nadine Eddy, 1928 graduates of Osawatomie High School and former active community leaders, gave the funds for this endowed scholarship. Their son, William Eddy Jr., continues to support this award. It is for a student going to a four-year college that has demonstrated a caring and helpful attitude toward others during his/her high school years. An application is required.

ELKS LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP---Criteria include: a parent or grandparent that has been a member of the ELKS for a few years (see application) and an academically talented student with a high GPA and ACT. Applications may be downloaded from the internet at: www.elks.org/enf/scholars/legacy.cfm .

ELKS MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS---The scholarships are based on leadership, grades and academic achievement. The student should rank very high in the class. It requires a lengthy application, letters of reference, transcript of grades, etc.. Because the application is long, you must start on these as soon as they are available. Winners advance to state competition where more awards are possible. This scholarship can result in a lot of money if you progress through the various levels. ELKS PAST EXALTED RULER SCHOLARSHIPS---The local Elks Lodge #921 also gives generous P.E.R. awards to students in area high schools. Past academic success is an important consideration for this scholarship. Complete this application as soon as it becomes available and turn it in promptly. An application is required.

FRANK E. ELLIOTT SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship was established by friends and colleagues of Frank Elliott, former counselor at Osawatomie High School. A committee selects someone from the senior class each year that will be furthering his/her education to receive the award. No application is necessary. 

EVERGY SCHOLARSHIPS---Community and craft scholarship opportunities are available for students planning to pursue various post-secondary alternative. See Mrs. Stout-Rhine for details. (NOT AVAILABLE SPRING 2023)

JOE FENOUGHTY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---Mr. Fenoughty’s family and friends established this scholarship in 2010 as a memorial to him. Mr. Fenoughty graduated from OHS in 1958, was a life-long Osawatomie resident, active in the community and a strong supporter of OHS athletics. The scholarship is intended for an OHS student attending a vocational/technical school, two-year or four-year college. The recipient must have attended OHS all four years. An application is required.

FIRST OPTION BANK SCHOLARSHIP---The First Option Bank of Osawatomie provides this scholarship to assist area graduates in obtaining a college education. Criteria include: a minimum of two years attendance at OHS, a good all-around student that has shown concern for others, demonstrates a helpful, caring attitude toward his/her fellow students and teachers, has potential to be successful in their post-secondary program, a customer of First Option Bank, or is a son/daughter or grandson/granddaughter of a First Option Bank customer, and plans to pursue a business/finance related major. An application is required.

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This award is given by the Osawatomie First United Methodist Church to assist with the post secondary educational expenses of a member of the church. An application is required.

NOEL GANOUNG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is given in memory of Mr. Noel Ganoung. He was a long-time industrial arts and drafting teacher at Osawatomie High School. You should be headed toward a program related to drafting/industrial arts, or planning to become a teacher to be eligible. An application is required.

JOHN GARETT MEMORIAL START OF LIFE SCHOLARSHIP---This is a scholarship given to a senior who shows similar characteristics to the family's beloved John Garett. He loved fishing, hunting, camping and working out. While stationed in Iwakuni, Japan, he taught gymnastics and wrestling to young children. He has been described as caring, loving, goofy, fun and adventurous. He lit up the room when he walked in and brought joy and laughter wherever he went. John was a 2017 graduate of OHS. He joined the workforce following graduation and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Marine Corp. ALL SENIORS are eligible to apply. Recipients are not required to pursue post secondary education in order to receive this scholarship. A paragraph about yourself is all that is needed. 

DONNA LAMBERT GOODWIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is provided by the late Mildred P. Lambert to honor her daughter, Mrs. Donna Lambert Goodwin. The scholarship is intended for a student planning to study in a medical field with priority given to a nursing or x-ray major. The students awarded shall be of good moral character and financial need. The valedictorian and salutatorian are not eligible for this scholarship. An application is required.    

GEORGE AND ANN GRAHAM SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is a substantial award given each year through a very generous endowment set up by Mr. and Mrs. Graham. Mr. Graham was a former Osawatomie businessman and school treasurer. This scholarship is to go to a graduating senior planning to major in business at a four-year college. An application is required.

JASON GRANDON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship was established by Jason’s family and is given in his memory as a way of thanking our community for their support throughout this tragedy. Jason was killed by a drunk driver in Miami County when he was 20 years old. The family works diligently to raise awareness regarding drunk driving and its devastating effects. An application is required.

GREATER MIAMI COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP---The Greater Miami County Community Foundation has established a scholarship to recognize students from Paola High School and Osawatomie High School for the leadership abilities and potential. Students from each school have served on the board of the foundation and worked to raise funds for the scholarship. These students are not eligible to receive the scholarship. An application is required.

GLADYS ANN AND WEBSTER HAWKINS SCHOLARSHIP--- Mr. & Mrs. Hawkins owned and published the Osawatomie Graphic for many years. They were the recipients of many journalism awards. They have provided a very generous donation to establish a continuing endowed scholarship. Its first preference is for a student that will be going to college and majoring in journalism. Other majors, however, can apply and will be considered. As long as the student remains eligible they may continue to receive the award for up to four years. Availability of this scholarship is dependent upon previous years recipients and earnings. Check with Mrs. Stout-Rhine regarding availability. An application is required.

HEADS UP BRAIN INJURY SUPPORT GROUP SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is being offered by the Heads Up Brain Injury Support Group. It is available to any graduating senior from Osawatomie High School. The recipient of this scholarship should show compassion, the ability to give to others, and have been active within their community. Their future plans should involve pursuing their education goals in whatever field that may be. The committee asks that you carefully complete the application in order for them to better know you and your aspirations. An application is required.

HEARTLAND ART GUILD SCHOLARSHIP---This is a competitive scholarship open to students in each Miami County High School.  Selection for the one winner is based on a portfolio of the student’s work. The portfolio will be evaluated by a committee for the recipient selection of this award. See Mrs. Trull for portfolio details and assistance. An application is required. 

CHARLES "CHIC" HECKART SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is given by the family and friends of Mr. Charles “Chic” Heckart, a long time coach, athletic director, and teacher at Osawatomie High School. This scholarship is given through the Osawatomie United Methodist Church. Past criteria has included: an OHS graduating senior, C or higher GPA, someone active in high school athletics, and the average or better attendance. An application is required.

SUZANNE HOOD MEMORIAL SCHOLARHSIP---This scholarship is given in memory of Suzanne B. Hood by her granddaughter and husband, Megan and Steve Russell. Suzanne was an active member of the community, including serving as a substitute teacher in the Osawatomie schools. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education, was a hard worker, a welcoming face at Hane’s Florist for many years and friend to many. A recipient planning to pursue an education degree is preferred. The recipient must attend a 2 or 4-year college or university in the fall immediately following graduation. An application is required.  

HILDA HORNBERGER CHARITABLE TRUST SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is awarded to students residing in Miami County and have graduated from a high school in Miami County. Applicants must be pursuing an education in order to become qualified to enter a nursing related occupation. To apply for this scholarship, please fill out the application and mail your completed application as directed on the application. MUST BE SUBMITTED TO TRUSTEE (NOT MRS. STOUT-RHINE) BY APRIL 1. 

LOIS JACKSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship was established in memory of Ms. Lois Jackson, a former teacher for USD 367. The recipient must plan to major in education. An application is required.

DERRICK JENSEN SCHOLARSHIP---Mr. Jensen was a 1974 graduate of Osawatomie High School. This scholarship is intended to assist a dedicated, coachable, student athlete that has shown exemplary leadership qualities and plans to attend a two or four year college or vocational/technical school in the fall immediately following their graduation. No application is required.

FELICIA JOHNS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is established by the family of Felicia Johns to honor her memory. Felicia graduated from Osawatomie High School in 2007. She was an organ donor and the family is interested in learning students' views on organ donation and sharing this insight with Midwest Transplant. Being an organ donor is not a requirement of the scholarship, but applicants are asked to express their views on organ donation in the application, which will be shared with Midwest Transplant. Felicia was artistic and enjoyed participating in plays at OHS. The scholarship is intended to assist a student planning to attend a vocational education program, 2 or 4 year college or university in the fall immediately following their graduation from OHS. A student that has been involved in plays and the art program at OHS is preferred, but not required. An application is required. 

JUDY FINDLEY JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP---Mrs. Johnson was a 1958 graduate of Osawatomie High School. As the valedictorian of her class, she received the Dr. Fowler Scholarship. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 1962 with a degree in elementary education and married Bob the same year. Her mother, Frances Findley, was a first grade teacher in the Osawatomie school system for over 30 years. She and her family valued education a great deal. Bob and Shari Johnson have established this scholarship to honor his late wife by giving back to the community and the Osawatomie school district. They strongly believe scholarship recipients should remember to “give back” when they are able. This scholarship is intended to honor the valedictorian(s) of each graduating class. No application is required for this scholarship.

K. R. AND HELEN JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP---This generous award is given in memory of Mr. K. R. and Mrs. Helen Johnson by their sons, Robert and Peter. Mr. Johnson was a businessman, civic leader, and school board member in the Osawatomie area. It goes to a graduating OHS senior who shows great promise for the future and who is planning to further his/her education. An application is required.

MAXINE JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established in memory of Maxine Johnson by her granddaughter, an OHS Alumni. Maxine made her home in Osawatomie for several years throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed watching her granddaughters play a variety of sports which brought her to OHS and OMS often. The recipient of the scholarship must carry a 3.5 GPA, have attended OHS all four years of high school, and have financial need. Preferences will be given to those pursuing a degree in a STEM or Fine Arts area. An application is required.   

RAELYNN JONES SCHOLARSHIP---The RaeLynn Jones Memorial Scholarship is an endowed award given by friends and family in memory of Miss RaeLynn Jones, who was a 1983 graduate of Osawatomie High. It is for a student who is involved in various activities while attending high school, has demonstrated good academic abilities, and financial need. An application is required.

KANSAS ASSOCIATION OF DIRECTORS OF PLANT FACILITIES---These scholarships are available only to graduating seniors of non-instructional support staff who wish to continue their education at the college level. The students must be residents of Kansas and plan to attend a Kansas college or technical school. Only children whose parent or legal guardian is actively employed in a K-12 or secondary educational institution and engaged in building and grounds, food service or transportation position shall be eligible for these scholarships An application is required and available at http://kadpf.org/scholarship.html .

KANSAS CITY ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT DISTRIBUTORS SCHOLARSHIP---The Kansas City Associated Equipment Distributors awards up to four annual scholarships. The scholarships are intended for students planning to attend a vocational/technical school, and pursuing a certificate or associates degree in Diesel Mechanics or Heavy Equipment Repair. Recipients will be chosen based on their interest in entering one of these fields of study, upon completion of their certificate or associates degree. Selection is based on the individual's general aptitude and personal traits that are conducive to success in these fields of study. Once a student has completed the first year of school, they  may reapply for the scholarship their second year, but must meet all qualification. An application is required.

KANSAS COUNTY CLERKS AND ELECTION OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP---This award is made possible through joint efforts of the County Clerks, Secretary of State's Office and the Voters News Service. The scholarships are available to High School Seniors, College Freshmen or Sophomores majoring in Journalism, Political Science, or Communications. An application is required.

KANSAS MASONIC FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS--The Kansas Masonic Foundation offers several different scholarships to Kansas students. Guidelines for each scholarship are available on the Kansas Masonic Foundation's website (linked to title). Applications are required. 

(EAST CENTRAL) KANSAS ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship award is provided by Retired School Personnel in Miami County. The selection will be based upon academic ability, financial need, outstanding personal characteristics, and a serious commitment by the student to furthering his/her education. Preference will be given to education majors. An application is required. 

(EAST CENTRAL) KANSAS SPECIAL EDUCATION COOPERATIVE (ECKSEC) FUTURE SPECIAL EDUCATOR SCHOLARSHIP---The staff of the ECKSEC would like to encourage talented and dedicated students they serve to pursue a career in Special Education or Related Services. This scholarship is funded by donations from ECKSEC staff, who are committed to giving back to their profession, supporting the development of a new generation of professionals to serve students with special needs. An application is required.        

KSCPA MERIT SCHOLARSHIP---These scholarships are offered by the Educational Foundation of the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants. The scholarships are offered without regard to financial need to students who rank high in either the ACT or SAT, will attend a Kansas university or college, demonstrate leadership activities, and plan to major in accounting. See Mrs. Stout-Rhine for application instructions.        

KSHSAA TRUE BLUE SCHOLARSHIP---In partnership with Capitol Federal Foundation, the KSHSAA will award True Blue Scholarships intended to support Kansas High School graduates in postsecondary efforts. Funds will be made payable to a two-year or four-year accredited college, university or technical school in the name of the selected student. Awards are non-renewable, one-time scholarships in the amount of $2,000 provided for a student in each activity administered by the KSHSAA. (Information obtained through KSHSAA website.) 

KING – DIEDIKER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established by members of the King and Diediker families to assist an OHS graduate with his/her educational expenses. Criteria include: a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and involvement in athletics, music, and/or clubs while attending OHS. An application is required.

HENRY E. & ONETTA KING SCHOLARSHIP---The family and many friends of Henry King established this award in his memory. Criteria include: high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and involvement in school activities. An application is required.

LOIS HANNA KINKEAD SCHOLARSHIP---This is a large endowed scholarship given to a graduating senior in memory of Mrs. Lois Hanna Kinkead, a 1931 graduate of Osawatomie High School, by her late husband Mr. Ewing Kinkead. Criteria stresses academic ability, especially in English and/or geography.  An application is required.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS #10786 SCHOLARSHIP---The local Knights of Columbus council has established a scholarship to assist a graduating OHS student. Preference will go to a descendant of a Knight but is not required. An application is required. 

MARTHA KUDER MEMORIAL/USD 367 FOOD SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP---The school food service employees of all the buildings in USD 367 have contributed money to provide a scholarship to a graduating senior.  Any senior planning to attend a post-secondary school next year is eligible. An application is required.

LADIES AUXILIARY OF THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLES AWARD---The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles provide a scholarship to an outstanding OHS senior girl. The criteria state that she must be planning to further her education. An application is required. 

LET THERE BE LIGHT FELLOWSHIP SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is established by Pat & Debra Huss in the name of the Let There Be Light Fellowship. The scholarship is intended to assist a student planning to attend a vocational education program, 2 or 4 year college or university in the fall immediately following their graduation from OHS. A student pursuing an education and career in public service (law enforcement, medical, education) is preferred. An application is required. 

LIVING PROOF CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is provided by the Living Proof Church. An application including a one-page essay on what God has done for you in the past 4 years of high school is required. (Download PDF application form and open in order to complete fillable form.)

MARAIS DES CYGNES CHAPTER DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION (DAR)---This scholarship award is provided by the Miami County Chapter of the DAR. The selection criteria will include academic ability, financial need, outstanding personal characteristics, and a serious commitment by the student to furthering his/her education.  An application is required.

DEANNA MCCLURE K.A.Y. SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established by the OHS K.A.Y. organization in honor of Ms. Deanna McClure former OHS teacher and K.A.Y. sponsor. Any senior who is an active member of the Osawatomie High School K.A.Y. organization may apply. Application for a McClure Scholarship includes three steps: 1. Completing application below; 2. Applicant essay; 3. Letters of recommendation. An application is required. ONLY COMPLETED APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED. 

ROY A. AND MARY A. MCDANIEL SCHOLARSHIP---The McDaniel Scholarship is awarded each year to a senior planning to attend college and study an area of fine arts.  It is provided through a generous endowment from the late Father Allen McDaniel, SSC, a 1935 graduate of Osawatomie High. It is given in memory of his parents, Roy A. and Mary A. McDaniel. An application is required.

MIAMI COUNTY FAMILY & COMMUNITY EDUCATION & COMMUNITY CLUB COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP--- This award is given to a graduating senior in Miami County who has taken part in 4-H, Scouting, F.C.C.L.A., F.F.A. or related activities. MIAMI COUNTY FARM BUREAU ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP---This award is designated for graduating seniors whose parents are members of the Miami County Farm Bureau for at least one year and own or lease land in Miami County. The student needs to be involved in extra-curricular activities (school, church, community). An application is required. (Link to specific requirements and application instructions. MIAMI COUNTY 4-H SCHOLARSHIP---The Miami County 4-H Council gives an award each year to an outstanding member of 4-H in the county. They make their selection by a committee. Applications for state 4-H scholarships may be accessed at Kansas 4-H Scholarship opportunities. Contact your 4-H leader for details.

MIAMI COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE COPS FOR TOTS SCHOLARSHIP---The Miami County Sheriff’s Office Cops For Tots program began in 1995 as a tribute dedicated to the memory of Sheriff Ken Davis.  The program serves hundreds of children each year in Miami County.  Not only does it make special Christmas memories through the Angel Tree program it also provides assistance to children throughout the year as well as helping to stock the local food pantries. The applicant shall be a graduating senior, intend to continue his/her education at a two or four year college, technical school, or university, have a 2.0 GPA, be a Miami County resident, and have a strong background in community service. MID-AMERICAN MENSA SCHOLARSHIP---The Mensa Education and Research Foundation is offering scholarships for members American Mensa as well as non-members. Applicants are required to submit an essay to be considered. Grades, academic program and/or financial need are not included in the final determination of recipients. An application is required.

NEWCOMER FUNERAL SERVICES GROUP TRADITION OF CARING MORTUARY SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is provided by Newcomer Funeral Services Group-Penwell Gabel, Osawatomie Chapel and intended to recognize a local mortuary science student who demonstrates the core values of Excellence, Trust, Care and Growth. Must intend to enroll in a mortuary science program. An application is required.

OLATHE MEDICAL CENTER SCHOLARSHIPS/MIAMI COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER SCHOLARSHIP---Two substantial awards are given by Olathe Medical Center each year to graduating OHS seniors by the Miami County Medical Center. Recipients must attend a post-secondary school and major in a medical related field. Academic potential is an important factor in the selection. An application is required. Must be turned in to Mrs. Stout-Rhine in triplicate by due date on local scholarship calendar to allow time to get the applications to OMC by their due date.)

OSAWATOMIE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIP---The Osawatomie Chamber of Commerce has established a scholarship to recognize OHS seniors and provide financial support as they enter their post-secondary education. Students must begin their post-secondary education at a 2 or 4-year college or university, vocational or technical school in the fall immediately following their graduation. An application is required. 

OSAWATOMIE GOVERNING BODY SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is provided by individuals serving as the Governing Body of Osawatomie. It is intended to assist a student planning to attend a two or four year college or vocational/technical school in the fall immediately following their graduation. Preference will be given to a student who has either volunteered for or been employed by the City of Osawatomie and is planning to enter into a vocational program, but others may be considered. The recipient shall have a minimum 2.0 GPA and 90% attendance percentage the first semester of their senior year. An application is required.  

OSAWATOMIE NEA AWARD---The Osawatomie Teachers Association provides a large scholarship each year through donations by teachers throughout the district. It goes to a graduating senior that plans to become a teacher. It is intended that this be a substantial award that can be renewed for three additional years. An application is required

OSAWATOMIE PRIDE COMMITTEE---The Osawatomie PRIDE Committee offers this scholarship intended to recognize an OHS senior that has participated in various community service activities throughout their high school career. The scholarship is available to students planning to attend a 2 or 4 year college/university or vocational education program in the fall immediately following graduation.  

OSAWATOMIE RECREATION SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established by the Osawatomie Recreation. Applicants must have participated in or supported through other endeavors activities sponsored by Osawatomie Recreation and plan to attend a college or vocational/technical school in the fall immediately following graduation. An application is required.  

OSAWATOMIE ROTARY CLUB ARCHIE PARKS MEMORIAL AWARD(S)---The Osawatomie Rotary Club has endowed an annual scholarship(s) for graduating seniors. Archie and Beulah Parks made the initial donation to start this scholarship. The Rotarians continue to add to this endowment from our annual Golf tournament to make the award(s) significant. The recipient(s) will be selected by a committee to honor worthy students who show community service with a plan to attend school full-time next year. An application is required.

OSAWATOMIE VFW SCHOLARSHIP--- This scholarship is given at the direction of Osawatomie VFW members prior to the post’s disbandment. The scholarship is intended for a student planning to attend a vocational training program, two-year, or four-year college. Recipient must be a direct descendant (child, grandchild, great-grandchild, etc…) of a veteran. An application is required.    

OSAWATOMIE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS LADIES AUXILIARY OSAWATOMIE HIGH SCHOLARSHIP---The local VFW Auxiliary 2258 has endowed a scholarship for a student of OHS that plans to go on to college or a technical school. Everyone is eligible and there are no membership restrictions. An application is required.

OVER THE RAINBOW OZ COMMUNITY GARDEN SCHOLARSHIP---The creators of the Over the Rainbow Oz Community Garden have established this scholarship in an effort to recognize USD #367 students who volunteer their time and talents in the garden and/or selling and distributing the garden’s crops. The recipient must graduate from OHS in good standing and begin his/her post-secondary education in a two or four-year college or vocational training program in the fall immediately following graduation. They shall be a self-motivated, hard-working student. The garden scholarship committee will track hours worked by students by year and the scholarship shall be awarded annually to one or more qualifying students. No application is required.

P.E.O. SCHOLARSHIP---This is an annual award for a senior girl that plans to continue her education. It is given by the local P.E.O. organization. They prefer she has a 3.5 GPA and/or plan to attend Cottey College and/or have a parent that is a member of P.E.O. Other senior girls may apply in case no current senior meets the above criteria.  An application is required.

PARKER RURAL HIGH ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP---The applicant must be a relative of a Parker Rural High School graduate. An application is required. (The linked application is a PDF fillable form. PARTNERS IN EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS---The Partners in Education organization plans to give two, or more, scholarships to outstanding seniors. Recipient must attend a two or four-year college or a vocational/technical school in the fall immediately following their graduation. Usually, a male and a female are selected to receive the awards. An application is required.

KEITH PEUSER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is given in honor of Keith Peuser by his wife, Lindsey, and their families. Keith was a 2015 Paola High School graduate. His wife was a 2017 Osawatomie High School graduate. They married in May 2017 and made their home in Tennessee until his passing in July 2017. Keith was a Specialist in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky serving with the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment “No Slack”. He enjoyed baseball, wrestling, hunting, and fishing. He was known “as an exemplary soldier” and “valued for his eagerness to attack challenges, consistently resulting in personal and organizational success”. Lindsey and their families felt giving back to the communities in which she and Keith grew up would be a fitting tribute, honoring his memory. The recipient shall have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA and begin a vocational-technical program or 2 or 4-year college in the fall immediately following graduation. An application is required. 

FRANK & JACKIE PLATT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established by the family of Frank & Jackie Platt. Frank graduated from OHS, served in the U.S. Marine Corps, returned to Osawatomie to work as a banker and later business owner. Jackie was a high school teacher, then stay-at-home mother for a time and eventually an elementary teacher here in Osawatomie. They were both very active in the community, each serving on the USD #367 School Board, members of the First Presbyterian Church, and various other organizations. Scholarship criteria includes: Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, active in school, church and/or community organizations beyond the classroom, and someone who classmates and school personnel recognize as a positive role model for others. Recipient must use scholarship funds to attend post-secondary 2-year, 4-year, or trade school institution. An application is required.  

ELLEN PORTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is given in memory of Ellen Porter by her family and friends. Ellen attended Baker University, majoring in music and education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a specialization in music from Baker. Ellen and her family moved to Osawatomie in 1973 where she and her husband raised their three children, who graduated from Osawatomie High School. Ellen taught at the Osawatomie State Hospital and was an organist for St. Philip Neri and First Presbyterian Churches. An applicant planning to attend Baker University and/or majoring in music or education is preferred. An application is required. 

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is funded by the Osawatomie Presbyterian Church to assist a graduating senior with their educational expenses next year. Priority is given to a student that is a member of the Presbyterian Church, but students active in other churches are seriously considered. You must have good attendance and provide two letters of reference. An application is required. See Mrs. Stout-Rhine for a paper copy application. 

JOCELYN RAZO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established by the family of Jocelyn Razo to honor her memory. Jocelyn was a member of the Osawatomie High School Class of 2020. She was known for her spunk and bubbly personality. She was sassy, sarcastic, spoke her mind, and always made people laugh. She loved being with her friends. The scholarship is intended to assist a classmate planning to continue their education in order to reach their career goals. An application and essay explaining their goals and plans to reach them are required. (This application is a Google Form with fields available to upload your essay and a letter of recommendation. Please let Mrs. Stout-Rhine know if there are any technical issues with the form.)  

BILL REINECKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship was established by the family of the late Bill Reinecker to honor his memory by assisting an Osawatomie graduate that plans to further their education. Mr. Reinecker was a 1962 graduate of OHS. He was a member of several Trojan teams, including basketball, football, for which he was a punter, and the track team, holding the state pole vault record for 2 years. This scholarship is available to any student attending a 2 or 4-year college or university or vocational program in the fall immediately following graduation. No application is required.

ADA REMINGTON SCHOLARSHIP---The Ada Remington Scholarship was established through a gift to the United Methodist Church by her estate. It provides a scholarship for two or more students that attend the Methodist Church. The awards are granted on the basis of participation in church, Sunday School, and M.Y.F. activities. An application is required.

BILL RICKMAN MEMRORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established in memory of Bill Rickman by his family and funded by family and many friends. Mr. Rickman served the Osawatomie Community as a teacher, coach, counselor and principal. He was a friend to many and active in the community. Recipients must attend a 2 or 4 year college or university in the fall immediately following graduation and have been active in extracurricular activities, primarily athletics or related activities. Those involved in community activities and first generation college students will be given special consideration. 

ROOTS FESTIVAL BLUE MOON SCHOLARSHIP---This award will go to a student with a background in the area of fine arts. Students going into music and other areas of fine arts are eligible to apply. Good academic potential is also a plus for this scholarship. An application is required.

ADA SAUNDERS SCHOLARSHIP---These are very generous endowed scholarships set up by Miss Ada Saunders. Miss Saunders was a long-time Osawatomie elementary school teacher. It is administered through funds she left to the Osawatomie United Methodist Church. Criteria include: being a person of good moral character, scholarship, industry, need, Christian tendencies, and good American principles. The committee is to consider a person related to the United Methodist Church, “but the award is not limited to this”. An application is required.

NADINE WEBER SCHWARTZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This substantial scholarship has been established by Mr. L. M. (Mike) Schwartz as a memorial to his late wife, Nadine, who was a 1930 graduate of Osawatomie High School. It is to go to an OHS senior that plans to attend a two or four-year college full-time next year. The criteria include a “demonstrated academic potential for completing a post-secondary program”; and “be of good moral character and have demonstrated positive attributes”. An application is required.

MICHELLE SETTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship has been established by Ms. Setter's family and is intended to assist a student majoring in education. Ms. Setter served Osawatomie High School for more than 18 years. She taught English, coached Scholar's Bowl, sponsored Student Council and the dance team. She devoted countless hours to her students and co-workers in various ways. Criteria for the scholarship include full-time attendance in the fall immediately following graduation at an accredited two or four-year college/university, good high school attendance record, Scholar's Bowl and/or student council participation preferred. An application is required.      

JOHN AND ARLENE SHAW FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPS---These generous scholarships have been established through a very substantial donation provided by John and Arlene Shaw, Pittsburg, Kansas. Mr. Shaw was the Osawatomie High School principal from 1954 through 1974. Criteria include: full-time attendance the next fall at an accredited two or four-year college/university or vocational/technical school, a helpful and positive attitude, good academic potential and good attendance. An application is required.

SHELTER INSURANCE FOUNDATION AGENTS' SCHOLARSHIP---Shelter Insurance Agent, David Lacey is sponsoring the Shelter Insurance Foudation Agents' Scholarship Program at Osawatomie High School. The scholarship will be paid directly to any accredited college, university, or trade school by September following graduation. (Click flyer for more details.) An application is required. 

SIMPLE SIMONS PIZZA SCHOLARSHIP---Mr. Rory McConnell of Simple Simons Pizza in Paola sponsors a scholarship each year for a graduating Osawatomie High School senior that will be furthering their education after high school. The recipient is to be a good student with potential. Selection is made by a committee. No application is required.

PRISCILLA SLAWSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is provided by the family and friends of Priscilla Slawson. Mrs. Slawson taught business for 27 years at OHS. More importantly, she taught her students about self-esteem, self-confidence, and a positive self-image. She taught these lessons by example and through high expectations, humor, and concern. The scholarship is intended to honor her memory and assist a student planning to attend a vocational/technical program, two or four year college or university in the fall immediately following their graduation. The selection will be based on several factors including how a student has progressed from their freshmen year of high school to their senior year. The selection committee will be looking for improvement throughout an applicant’s high school years and indications of maturity and compassion shown to others. An application is required.   

D.O. SMITH SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is awarded to students from Miami County who are planning to enroll in a nursing program. S. M. “MAC” STEELE SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship was established to honor Mr. S.M. “Mac” Steele, a long time teacher, coach, and athletic director at Osawatomie High. The award was established by his family and receives additional support from his son. Its goal is to assist a graduating senior of OHS that plans to attend college the next fall. It is to go to an outstanding scholar/athlete. Selection is made by a committee. No application is required.

MIKE AND RICK STEPHENS OUTSTANDING ATHLETE AND MUSICIAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS---The Mike and Rick Stephens Scholarships are substantial endowed awards given to selected seniors, by the Stephens Family. They are in memory of Clifford and Norma Stephens’ sons: Mike, a 1967 graduate of OHS, and Rick, a 1973 graduate of OHS. One scholarship will go to an outstanding music student, the other to an outstanding athlete. Selection is made by a committee. An application is required.

MELVIN STOCKWELL SCHOLARSHIP---This substantial award was established from the estate of Mr. Melvin Stockwell, a long-time area businessman. It is to go to a student that ranks more toward the average of college bound students, and one who plans to attend a two or four college full-time next year. An application is required.

SUB DEBS SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is given by the Sub Debs organization to a graduating female senior that has been an active member of the organization and is planning to further their education. An application is required.

SWENSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP---The scholarship is given by Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Swenson and their children. Mr. Swenson served the Osawatomie schools as a teacher, coach, and for twenty years, the superintendent of Unified School District 367. It is given to a senior who plans to attend a two or four-year college, has been involved in school activities, and has attended OHS at least two years. An application is required.

JULIE WALLACE TAYLOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is provided by the family and in memory of Julie Wallace Taylor. The scholarship is intended to assist a student planning to attend a vocational/technical program in the fall immediately following their graduation. The recipient shall have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5. A student planning to pursue a cosmetology or heavy equipment course of study is preferred. Others may be considered at the discretion of the committee. An application is required.     

NADA THODEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---The Miami County Quilters Guild will award this scholarship annually to a Miami County resident pursuing a Family & Consumer Science related major and career. Eligibility requirements include plans to attend an accredited university, college or community college in Kansas during the upcoming school year, majoring in a Family & Consumer Science field (click here for examples of majors include but not limited to FACS), resident of Miami County or a graduate of a Miami County school district, an interest in sewing and/or fiber arts as shown by college plans, high school coursework, and other activities, scholastic achievement as shown by GPA and course rigor, community involvement and 2 letters of reference (at least one from school personnel). You will need to print the form and submit a hard copy to Mrs. Stout-Rhine by the due date indicated on the scholarship calendar in order for her to mail to the organization by their due date.) 

PAUL AND IDA TRUMP SCHOLARSHIPS---The Paul and Ida Trump Scholarships are very generous awards they endowed with their estate. Selection criteria include: overall character, academic potential, scholastic record, and for one-half of the awards, financial need is to be considered. To be eligible to apply you must have attended Osawatomie High School all of their junior and senior years, have a 2.0 or higher overall GPA and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or university. There is a large diverse community group that serves as the scholarship committee. You must have two reference letters sent to Mrs. Stout-Rhine. An application is required.  

TWIN RIVERS JAZZ BAND SCHOLARSHIP---This is an endowed scholarship fund set up by the Twin Rivers Jazz Band. The recipient must be an instrumental musician that will be attending college, and one who and plans to participate in music in some way in college. An application is required.

JOHN VASQUEZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---The John Vasquez Memorial Scholarship is an endowed scholarship given in memory of Mr. John Vasquez, a 1986 graduate of Osawatomie High, by his parents. It is to go to a student that will be attending college full time and majoring in a medical field. An application is required.

VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS LADIES AUXILIARY OSAWATOMIE HIGH SCHOLARSHIP(OSAWATOMIE VFW AUXILIARY)---The local VFW Auxiliary 2258 has endowed a scholarship for a student of OHS that plans to go on to college or a technical school. Everyone is eligible and there are no membership restrictions. An application is required.

VICTORY CHEVROLET-BUICK-GMC TRUCK SCHOLARSHIP---This scholarship is to be given to a graduating senior who intends to further their education at a two-year or four-year technical school, college or university in the automotive field. The student eligible for assistance shall have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Consideration may also be given to the student’s financial need. An application is required.

ROY AND TERESA VOSSLER SCHOLARSHIP---An endowed scholarship is given to a graduating senior each year by Mrs. Teresa Vossler. Both she, and her husband, served as Osawatomie School Board Members. This scholarship is intended for a graduating senior that plans to become a teacher. An application is required.

ROBERT J. WAGERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP(S)---A very generous scholarship has been endowed to honor the memory of Mr. Robert J. Wagers, by his son-in-law and daughter, Harry and Mary Lou Cavinee. The scholarship goes to senior student planning to major in nursing. The selection process also considers the student’s academic potential. An application is required.

BRUCE WAGGONER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---The Bruce Waggoner Memorial Scholarship is an endowed award provided by donations from his family and friends. Mr. Waggoner was a local businessman and a 1971 graduate of Osawatomie High School. Criteria includes: being in the top one-half of the graduating class and planned full-time attendance at a two or four year college next year. The scholarship may be renewed if specific criteria are met while attending college. An application is required.

IRVIN & BERTHA WALTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This is an endowed scholarship that was established as a memorial to Mrs. Bertha Walter, by her husband Irving. It goes to an OHS senior girl who will be attending a college or vocational/technical school full-time next year. The primary criteria you must meet for this award is high moral character (non-smoker drug free, etc.). Academic ability and need are also considered. An application is required.

WHITAKER BROTHERS OF BEAGLE SCHOLARSHIPS---Miss Hazel Whitaker established these awards at the University of Kansas in memory of her brothers. They are very large awards and are for Osawatomie High students who will be (or are currently) attending K.U. and are majoring in a selected area, preferably a medical field. The total amount awarded each year varies from three to six thousand dollars, and is renewable if specific criteria are met. See Mrs. Stout-Rhine to see if one is available this year.

JOSEPH S. AND DOROTHY WHITEFORD EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS---These very substantial scholarships were setup through the estate of Joseph and Dorothy Whiteford to assist Osawatomie High School graduating seniors with educational costs. The student must be attending a two or four-year college/university or a vocation or technical program on a full-time basis. They must have an ACT of at least 22, a minimum GPA of 3.0, and rank in the top 50% of his/her graduating class. They must be a student of “good habits”, have attended Osawatomie high their last two years or more, and be an active participant in school activities. An application is required.

SILAS AND HATTIE WHITEFORD SCHOLARSHIPS--- Mrs. Hattie Whiteford and Thelma Whiteford established this very large endowed scholarship fund to serve graduating seniors of Osawatomie High. The Whiteford family had a long association with the First Option Bank of Osawatomie. Criteria include: very high academic ability, planned attendance at a two or four-year college, and a person of “good habits”. Two to four substantial amounts are awarded each year. An application is required.

MARILYN WINEGAR SCHOLARSHIP---Mrs. Winegar was a 1969 graduate of Osawatomie High School and taught elementary school for many years in Osawatomie. Her family and friends have established this scholarship in her memory to assist a deserving student planning to attend a 2 or 4-year college in the fall after graduation. Other criteria include: plans to pursue an education degree, a minimum high school GPA of 3.0, and be ranked in the top fifty percent of the class. The student must have a ninety percent or better attendance record and shall have attended Osawatomie High both their junior and senior years. An application is required.

ANDREW WORKMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP---This endowed award is given in memory of Andrew Workman by his parents. Andrew was a 1990 Osawatomie High graduate of Osawatomie High School and very outstanding performer in theater productions. This scholarship is for a student going to any college or vocational program. The student must also have been involved in drama/school plays (on stage or behind the scenes) while in high school. An application is required.

BESSIE AND FRED ZAKOURA SCHOLARSHIP---Mr. Mike Zakoura established this generous scholarship to honor his parents, Bessie and Fred Zakoura. They operated a community grocery store for many years, and Mrs. Zakoura worked in food service at the Osawatomie Middle School for 25 years. This award goes to a deserving student. The recipient is chosen by a committee. Economic need will be considered. No application is required.
